Is BK’s Impossible Whopper Actually Vegan?

Burger King is being hit with a class-action lawsuit over whether it’s Impossible Whopper is actually vegan. Impossible Burgers is known for its meat-alternative and has captured the nation by storm. However, the plaintiff in this lawsuit claims that BK failed to disclose that the Impossible Whopper is cooked on the same grills as beef products. Doing so can cross-contaminate the plant-based food with animal byproducts that vegetarians and vegans often are trying to avoid. If you sell vegan-friendly meals, are you prepping them in a vegan-friendly manner?

SOCCER: Can Hourinho End Tottenham Hotspurs’ Drought?

As this infographic shows, there have been no major new additions to the Tottenham Hotspur trophy cabinet since the 2007/08 season when they triumphed in the League Cup -- this in itself was the first major honor for the club since they won the same competition in 1998/99. Their new manager, however, has a CV which speaks for itself. Since Tottenham's last honor, José Mourinho has brought home 13 trophies to his respective clubs -- Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

Do Beers Stay Fresh Longer in Bottles or Cans?

Everyone loves a good draft pour, but does beer stay fresh longer when in bottles or cans? The answer? Cans. Light is the biggest enemy when it comes to beer freshness, so beer in glass bottles with skunk at some point. Brown glass does protect the beer longer than green bottles, however, if you’re looking to serve the freshest beer not from the tap, aim for cans.

 AT YOUR OWN RISK

Why it matters to you: What are you risking by not featuring eSports?

Are you tired of us yapping about eSports? Too bad, because it’s really big now and it’s only getting bigger. How about these bulging statistics. Currently, live eSports and gaming gets 454 million views per year and that is expected to continue to grow rapidly. The media and sponsorship rights have doubled since just 2017, up to $897 million. That would put them at double the value of none other than the UFC. And many of you are dedicated to the UFC product and spend extra money to show their PPVs. Add to all those metrics the fact that the biggest consumers of this content are Millennial males, making nearly $70,000 a year. Sound like anyone you might want to attract to your location to drink and eat -- and even maybe game?

We have been advocating for our sports-themed subscribers to embrace eSports as a certain future for content in their locations. Shameless plug here, but we even published a series on how to embrace eSports in your location. Of course, it all starts with content. Currently, there is little or no oversight as far as the broadcasting rights for internet channels like Twitch and Youtube Gaming. While we can’t advocate that you leverage the streams, we suggest you review the various terms of service for yourself to see if there is a public viewing prohibition. Yes, we are purposefully not telling you, so you will read for yourself and decide. But, have at it if they don’t. All you have to lose is not getting access to an audience you should crave.

A LOSS FOR US ALL

Why it matters to you: Opioid addiction hurts everyone, including your business.

Addiction has become a reality to so many people in our country over the last 25 years, that it’s not surprising that it’s also a serious work place issue. The economic impact of prescription opioid abuse alone was a staggering $179.4 billion in 2018, according to a recent report by the Society of Actuaries. That includes $72.6 billion in mortality costs, $60.4 billion in health care costs, $26.5 billion in lost productivity, and $10.9 billion in criminal justice system costs. The productivity losses are more than the entire economy of Senegal, a country of almost 16 million people. That’s a lot of disruption and it comes in some forms that can’t even be accurately measured. Consider if you have a manager whose spouse is experiencing an addiction issue or have an employee that decompensates while they work for you. Given that concern, many companies are now being proactive regarding addiction in their own workforces.

Employers need to face this epidemic and create programs that support employees and their families that are fighting addiction. And it's good for the bottom line, too. For each employee seeking treatment, employers can save almost $2,607 per person each year, according to joint analysis from the National Safety Council, NORC at the University of Chicago, and nonprofit Shatterproof. These folks are like family and finding a way to help them cope with what might be their biggest life challenge is a real way to prove your commitment to your team. This can come in the form of including a generous addiction support program in your insurance negotiations. This will be a cost you may share, but everyone on your team will have access to it to make the challenge just a little bit easier. No matter how you approach it, just having the conversation with your team may be enough to find the support that will be serve your team.
