INFOGRAPHIC: 14 Ways Restaurants Can Keep Their Business, Staff & Guests Safe During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Since the coronavirus outbreak, restaurants around the world have had to reevaluate the way they did business and adjust their operations in order to survive. With brick-and-mortar restaurants closing down, owners have no option but to adapt and explore off-premise dining -- takeout and delivery.

Most of the actions restauranteurs can take right now relate to cooking and delivering food in a safe, hygienic environment. If they want to keep their existing customers and attract new ones, they have to put their minds at ease by letting them know they observe all hygiene standards and cook food safely.

The infographic below, created by GloriaFood, provides 14 actionable tips that restaurants can use to keep their business afloat and their customers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Deliver (with Your Own People)

If you haven’t been offering delivery up to this point, now is the time to start. And since your front of house staff is now idle, ask them if they would be willing to become riders for the time being.

However, delivery is not enough to satisfy customers who are afraid of contacting the virus. Everybody is looking for minimum exposure delivery or pickup. Give guests the option to pay online via credit card or PayPal and implement a system in which the rider rings the doorbell and leaves the food at the door to avoid any human interaction.

The same goes for pickup. You can instruct the customer to ring you when they’re outside the store so you can deliver their food at the door or in the parking lot.

Prioritize Safety Above All Else

Another route you have to take is the one of safety. Customers will want to know that they can order from you safely, so make that known everywhere. Place a safety measures flyer in each takeaway bag and consider stapling a card with temperature readings from the cook and driver to the bag as well.

Not just that but spread the word everywhere online. Post the safety measures on your restaurant website for all visitors to see and share them on social media as well. Send them in an email to existing clients and post them via Google Posts for customers who will google you.

We can’t know for sure when the chaos will stop and restaurants will be able to open their doors again. For now, it’s important to make the most of what you have and capitalize on takeaway using all the resources at your disposal.
