Got a Dirty Cutting Board? [Hack #084]

Use kosher salt & lemons to clean your chopping board!

Cleaning a kitchen is an extensive process. No matter how much you clean there is always a new stain to find. It also isn’t the best idea to clean kitchen utensils with harsh chemicals, because, you use them to cook.

Cutting boards are on the list of cookware that builds up the most bacteria. However, you don’t exactly want to use chemicals to clean you cutting board so next time, try something a bit more natural.

Use some kosher salt with lemon to clean your chopping board and avoid leaving any chemical residue. All you do is:

  1. Sprinkle the cutting board with kosher salt.
  2. Use a lemon half with the cut side down; scour the surface, squeezing slightly to release the lemon juice as you go.
  3. Let sit for five minutes.
  4. Give the surface a final rinse with a clean wet sponge.

After the cutting board dries, you’ll notice any dark stains (like pomegranate residue) have been washed of as well as any unseen bacteria. As an added bonus, it will also do wonders for that strong garlic smell that always seems to linger on your cutting board.

Happy Hacking!
