Restaurant Guest Technology Trends for 2020

Technology has filtered into almost every aspect of how a restaurant operator runs their business. From POS systems and tableside tech to staff shift scheduling and bar entertainment — restaurant technology plays a huge impact in your day-to-day operations.

Tech also plays a huge role in how your guests view the restaurant industry and interact with your business. Long gone are the days of calling in table reservations and looking for deals in the paper. The modern restaurant guest heavily leans on their phone and other tech to get the best experience possible for themselves.

Below is a nifty infographic about restaurant guest technology trends for 2020, created by NetWaiter.

Delivery, Delivery, Delivery

Are you tired of hearing about delivery, yet? We know we talk a ton about it but it’s because it’s so important to the modern restaurant landscape. Last month we published a post & infographic that talked about how mobile orders will be a $38 billion industry in 2020 and, on top of that, 32% of consumers use their smartphone to place an order.

Restaurant delivery is a big deal.

But it could be even a bigger deal if restaurants could guarantee faster service. In fact, 44% of people who used food delivery services would order more often if restaurants could promise them faster delivery service. Now, this is a bit out of your control, especially if you’re using a third-party delivery service. However, it does provide a reason as to why your restaurant might want to consider creating an in-house delivery team.

Restaurant Social Media Promotions

Digital marketing strategies vary in what they include, but few strategies are more popular than promoting on social media. For restaurants, Facebook and Instagram are the big two platforms. When it comes to promoting, restaurant operators prefer Facebook over the ‘Gram — 68% to 24%.

But is it the best plan?

According to surveyed users, Instagram is the best social media platform for diners engaging with restaurant brands. So if you’re looking for is to engage your guests and entice them to visit your venue, ditch the Facebook efforts for Instagram. However, if you still want to put more time into your Facebook page, know that more than half of your followers (58%) expect to get some sort of coupon in return for their Like.
