DID YOU KNOWS…

US Coronavirus Trajectory – Spike or Flat?

It's being hoped that effective social distancing and quarantine measures could see Germany, the U.S. and France swing into South Korea's trajectory of fewer new cases. Widespread free testing and quarantine measures have resulted in an effective campaign to slow the spread of COVID-19 in South Korea. The country hit 100 cases on February 20 and managed to leave the steep upward trajectory around 14 days later. European countries and the U.S. have yet to introduce testing as rigorous as that carried out in South Korea.

Stocking Up

As concerns about the coronavirus outbreak are mounting in the United States, many Americans are stocking up their pantries, as they prepare for a large-scale epidemic. According to figures from Nielsen’s Retail Measurement Services published this week, sales of medical supplies and non-perishable food have increased significantly over the past few weeks.

NFL Operating as Normal

There is some good news for sports bars and fans (if you haven’t already shut down). The NFL’s free agency negotiating window began yesterday, as scheduled, and the free agency officially opens to kick off the new league year. The NFLPA refused to move the league year, stating that no one is traveling anyways and the league can work fine remotely. With no other major leagues active at the moment, there’ll probably be a lot of NFL FA talk going around.

Coronacrisis: Day 5

IT’S HAPPENING FAST NOW!

Why it matters to you: Closures and curtailment is the new reality, what will happen next?

You don’t need to be a pundit to realize we are likely to see forced restaurant closures by municipalities that are battling. Already in New York City restaurants are being directed to drop down to half capacity. The problem is that the guests aren’t cooperating. Many restaurants reported that people are out and looking for entertainment. The problem is they are risking more than just their own health. Anyone that contracts the virus is contagious for up to two weeks before they show symptoms, but they are perfecting infectious throughout the incubation.

Now with several states either closing restaurants completely or severely curtailing their allowed services, this issue looks to be a long term crisis and not just a moment in time. Our nation is completely unaware that over 14 million people in nearly 1 million restaurants are going to be affected by these bans. Just consider that our industry employs approximately 4.3% of the US population and nearly 1 in 10 working people are in the restaurant industry. This says nothing for the millions of folks who serve the industry with supply chain, business management and marketing support.

We have already invited you to join us for a Live Chat regarding your response to this crisis and we hope you will. We will cover several points during this event.
